Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at becoming a star in the mainstream were unsuccessful. She had been signed to two distinct record companies, but dropped before releasing any of her music. In 2007, however, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted modest attention for its cheerfully playful title track. I Kissed a Girl was a more aggressive ode to sexism, that was accompanied by a slashing electro-pop style. It was a controversial song and critics were critical of it for encouraging same-sex relationships and other charged that it portrayed a racy scene that appealed to male fantasies of female sexuality. However, the mix of titillation and polished melodicism made I Kissed a Girl become the number one song in multiple countries powering sales for her album One of the Boys (2008). Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy 2nd single Hot N Cold also proving popular the album much of which Perry composed herself, eventually saw greater than 3 million copies across the United States.
